BANMI President Elias Rangamar during last week’s board meeting brought up some concerns on previous and current basketball leagues saying some problems that came out were caused one way or another, by coaches themselves.
There were times that in a single game during the recent leagues that the coach was to be blamed for team’s predicament.
Worse, the entire league is oftentimes hampered by disorganized teams.
From simple things like uniforms to a more serious problem like the attitude of each player in the teams, the BANMI officers find that it can all be avoided if coaches know their responsibilities.
The BANMI, Rangamar said is now working out on by by-laws of the coaches association whose philosophy is to raise the profile and development of basketball in the CNMI.
Organizing a coaches association aims to improve the educational level of coaches through an accredited scheme which is part of the strategic plan.
They also look at drafting proposals, suggestions and initiatives for all coaches’ related topics and prepare the criteria and standards for obtaining coaching license.
Other objectives of the coaches association is to organize clinics, seminars, refresher courses, conferences and round table discussions; participate actively in all BANMI activities; prepare a code of conducts for members; send prospective coaches to study tours; protect the interest of coaches from third parties, prepare unified coaches contract for its members and establish a coaching panel responsible for selection of national coaches.
