Senate Floor Leader Alan Seid in an interview told reporters that Remengesau will leave the tackling of the budget to the next administration.Seid said that in the leadership meeting Thursday with the president that instead of passing a budget, a continuing resolution will address the funding needs of the country until a new administration has been installed.Continuing resolution allows the government to operate despite the non-passage of a financial package.Remengesau will end his term this year, he is no longer eligible to run for the presidency.The leadership meeting was held on July 10 at the Senate chambers where the lawmakers and the president discussed several pending pieces of legislation which are on the agenda for the July session.Seid said among the topics discussed during the leadership meeting is the trochus harvest season, Palau Central Market Bill, Health Insurance Bill, Taxi Bill, PMIC and Far Eastern Air Transport (FAT) , status of the $3 million line of credit , oil and gas task force update, Compact Road warranties.The OEK will hold July session until August and the last session for the year will be on October.Seid said because it’s the election year, he said that it will depend on the individuals senators whether pending measures can be approved before the new administration comes in.
