Man pleads not guilty to burglary, theft

Jerome William T. Deleon Guerrero appeared in court with his government-appointed counsel Thomas E. Clifford. Assistant Attorney General Kevin Lynch represented the government.

Superior Court Presiding Judge Robert Naraja ordered Deleon Guerrero to be remanded back to the Department of Corrections after the hearing.

The court set the next hearing date for Sept. 14  in chamber of Judge Kenneth L. Govendo.

Chief Prosecutor Kevin A. Lynch filed an information in court against Deleon Guerrero for one count of burglary for unlawfully entering the vehicle of  Jeff Elliot with the purpose of committing theft on May 19, 2007; and one count of theft for unlawfully taking personal items from Elliot’s car.

Deleon Guerrero was ordered to appear in court on Aug. 4

On Aug. 14 and 15, 2008, attorneys David G. Bates and Bruce Berline  filed separate motions to withdraw as counsel for the defendant due to varying reasons.

Bates said that there exists a conflict of interest between his representation of the defendant and the victim.

Berline also filed a motion for permission to withdraw as attorney of record for the defendant due to a conflict of interest, adding that he has previously represented the victim of the case and he cannot effectively represent the defendant under the rules of professional conduct.
