A Day to Remember

Gibson Kanai, his friends, and supporters organized and conducted a Memorial Day celebration for Ngaraard State (August 15th) last Saturday, August 16.Residents of the all the villages of the state – Chol, Elab, Ngebuked, Ulimang, and Ngkelau – came together to actively remember their ancestors, family members, loved ones, neighbors, and friends who have, while living, made sacrifices that have ensured that those living today are content and happy.A friendly but competitive softball tournament was the highlight of the celebration. Each of the villages organized a team.  The teams were: Chollywood (Chol), Elabama (Elab), ULI (Ulimang), Tachukal (Ngkeklau), Ngebuked (Ngebuked), and Adzikvil – Kanai’s team.The celebration was further enhanced through generous donations and contributions from many people. Amongst the contributors were Senator Hokkons Baules, Minister Elbuchel Sadang, Delegate Antonio Bells, Adair Sumang, Former Governor Tadashi Sakuma, Jennifer Sugiyama-Yano, Steven Kanai, Gail Ngirmidol, Joan H. Demei, and Minister Elias C. Chin, and many others.Everyone at the celebration applauded for the support it received.  All were happy.Kanai, his friends, and supporters are said to have done a good deed and the people will remember!
