Seafix files protest over CPA’s $2.1M generator contract

Seafix believes that GPPC Inc., the winning bidder, did not meet the required qualification and scope of work for the project.

CPA acting Executive Director Lee Cabrera yesterday said Seafix’s protest has delayed the process of procuring the new generator which will be funded by a grant from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Seafix is CPA’s contractor for the repair of the agency’s two generators.

Cabrera said they are still waiting for the parts needed to repair these generators.

Costing $200,000, the repair is expected to be completed in five months.

The new generator, for its part, will be operational about 500 days after it is purchased.

Cabrera said CPA will make a final decision on the contract for a new generator this week.

The $2.1 million contract is for a generator, feeders, accessories and the cost of installing the equipment at the site.

Cabrera said there has been no power outages at the airport since last week’s more than three-hour blackout that stranded departing passengers.

Early this month, the FAA  sent a letter to the CNMI government inquiring about the airport’s safety and other concerns.

The Attorney General’s Office will draft the CNMI government’s draft, Cabrera said.

“It will come out soon,” he added.
