Press Secretary Charles P. Reyes Jr. said the delegation is scheduled to meet with Gov. Benigno R. Fitial and other CNMI officials.
Their talks are expected to be brief as the visiting federal officials are also scheduled to meet with other groups during the two days that they will be spending on island.
The delegation led by Tony Babauta, staff director of the U.S. House Subcommittee on Insular Affairs, is also scheduled to visit Okinawa, Japan and Honolulu, Hawaii.
In an interview, Washington Rep. Pete A. Tenorio said the visiting congressional staffers want to correct the misinformation regarding the federalization issue.
While here, they will also gather information on available opportunities for locals in the private sector and how the federalization law can help them.
Last month, a group of officials from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and other federal agencies visited Saipan to talk with local officials and other sectors in line with the ongoing drafting of the regulations that will implement the federalization law.
U.S. Public Law 110-229 will extend federal immigration law to the CNMI starting on June 1, 2009.
This date, however, could still be pushed to Nov. 4, 2009 depending on the circumstances here.
