3-day Homeland Security conference ends today

Dynasty marketing and promotions coordinator Kiri Jackson told the Variety in a telephone interview that the conference, which started on Monday, was conducted to create a network in the Pacific islands to respond to emergencies.

Jackson said the Joint Task Force-Homeland Security has held conferences on Guam and Saipan in the past months.

“The  focus is to prepare for both natural and man-made mass casualty incidents that may cause sudden and unexplained demand for emergency services,” Jackson said.

Among the areas of coverage were briefings on the national response framework and incident command system, the Tinian International Airport’s plans and capabilities, table top interoperable scenario exercises and other concerns.

Guest speakers included representatives from the U.S. Army, the U.S. Pacific Command, the Pacific Marine Corp., the Emergency Management Office, the Department of Defense, and other agencies.

Last June, police officers from Saipan joined a five-day training and workshop at the Pacific Islands Club.

Jackson said the same workshops and conferences are also scheduledo nn other islands for the upcoming months, including Rota, Palau, the Marshall Islands and American Samoa.
