Chief Prosecutor Kevin A. Lynch filed the information in court charging 43-year-old Sotero Litulumar Teregeyo and 32-year-old Mizanaur Rahman of Chalan Kanoa with one count of conspiracy to commit marriage fraud and one count of marriage fraud.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, from Feb. 2005 through May 18, 2005, the two defendants agreed to arrange a marriage between Rahman and defendant Teregeyo’s daughter in order for Rahman to procure an immigrant entry, a naturalized status or permanent residency in the CNMI or the United States.
The AGO stated that Teregeyo received money from Rahman in exchange for arranging a marriage with Rahman and his daughter.
Lynch said Rahman married Teregeyo’s daughter on May 18, 2005 “to attain the purposes of staying permanently in the CNMI, which is a violation and punishable under the law,” the information stated.
The two defendants are ordered to appear in court on Aug. 25 at 9 a.m.
The penal summons stated that failure to appear could result in an application for a warrant of arrest.
The summons stated that the defendants are entitled to a lawyer if they are unable to afford one.
