New DPS chief to focus on police, fire divisions

“I decided to accept the assignment to help the department, and my first focus is on the police and fire divisions because some of the officers were deployed to Iraq and we need to strengthen the manpower,” Tudela told reporters.

He said he is going to continue some of the programs of former DPS Commissioner Claudio Norita.

“Norita is my friend. I respect him and he knows that I can do the job. It’s just sad that he got removed as DPS commissioner but I would like to continue on with some of the programs he implemented because they’re good,” Tudela said.

DPS personnel can expect to see more improvements, he added.

But he did not yet specify which of Norita’s programs he will continue to implement.

Gov. Benigno R. Fitial fired Norita on Aug. 1 and named Tudela as acting commissioner.

Tudela was the DPS commissioner under the Babauta administration.
