Leader of workers group resigns

“I’d like to have it announced so I will be out of the affairs of the coalition,” she said yesterday. “I will continue to advocate and work for the issues I have begun but on a personal capacity and not anymore as president of the coalition.”

Tantiado said she planned to resign even before the scheduled forum for guest workers on July 19.

She informed her group about her intention to resign but was given more time to reconsider.

During the second week of July, Thess Samson, the group’s secretary, resigned for “personal reason.”

Samson said she can’t deal with the “traditional approach” of the group’s other officers. “We are more idealist and our views are different from them,” she said.

Tantiado, for her part, said she can be more effective advocating for the same cause outside the coalition. “

My decision will not only help me continue the goal of the guest workers but it will also help the coalition,” she added.

She said she joined the coalition “with a firm conviction” but “my direction is not their direction and I am not a traditional leader.”

The coalition, she said, is expected to call a meeting this week to elect a new president and assistant secretary.

Samson was replaced as secretary by the assistant secretary, Reggie Diesta.

Tantiado said she will pursue the programs she has started, particularly the concerns of the Parents Association of U.S. Citizen Children with Disabilities.
