Letter to the Editor: Somewhat amusing

According to Mr. Cing Ms. Knight said that this “was a historical time for the indigenous people and they should have the opportunity first” to run for the office of delegate to the U.S. Congress. Is he saying that Ms. Knight would automatically win the election over the “indigenous” people if she ran for office? I don’t find that very thoughtful.

In any case, doesn’t the commonwealth deserve the best representation for all of the people? If we have a great representative, does his or her ethnicity really matter?

Mr. Cing, if you believe that you or anyone else should represent only part of the citizens, perhaps this isn’t the job for you. If you believe that there are others better able to serve    (your letter seems to indicate that you might think so), perhaps this isn’t the job for you.

We need a delegate with a clear idea of what can and can’t be accomplished in office. We need a delegate who will be the voice for all of the people of the CNMI. We need a representative who possesses the traits of honesty, courage and integrity. We need a delegate of principle, who believes in equality for all of our citizens, regardless of race religion, ethnicity or culture.

Please be advised that the days of “entitlement” are fast coming to an end. We are all Americans and ethnic selectiveness has no place in the American tapestry.
