THE University of Guam Tritons defeated the Saipan Baseball League All Stars on Thursday, but lost to the Cardinals on Friday, and to the Junior Nationals on Saturday in a friendship tournament at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.
After two days of delay due to the weather, the tournament finally began on Thursday with the UOG Tritons squaring off with the SBL All Stars.
Both teams seemed evenly matched and were unable to score in the first two innings. But in the bottom of the third, the Tritons caught a break as the SBL All Stars struggled to secure the ball which allowed UOG’s Antonio Norita to steal his way to third base before he was brought in by teammate Oniel Yobech’s RBI single.
Down 0-1, the SBL All Stars finally came alive in the top of the eighth inning with Angel Palacios, Josenio Alvarez, and Tindin Leon Guerrero contributing an RBI single each as their team seized the lead for the first time, 3-1.
But the Tritons came back in the bottom of the ninth and final inning by capitalizing off their opponents’ errors to slip in three runs and run away with the victory, 4-3.

In the sixth inning the Tritons delivered four runs. They scored one more run in the seventh, and three in the eighth, but the Cardinals bagged two runs to remain in the lead en route to a hard-earned victory, 15-14.
