A people’s stimulus

They know of “what goes on” and what needs to be done to keep in pace – they certainly know of economic stimulus projects and have a beautiful jetty to show for.  However, they did not know of an “economic stimulus payment” and graciously welcomed presidential candidate Johnson Toribiong and his running mate, Delegate Kerai Mariur to give meaning to the whole concept.

During an overnight campaign visit to the state last Sunday, Toribiong and Mariur defined what the new stimulus is – a transitory economic payment to all struggling households to help ease the burden of financial obligations while the government diligently works to improve the economic status of the nation.Toribiong and Mariur further added that Palau must find a means to keep its people content with what it has to offer; and in the process prevent them from migrating elsewhere.“It’s the people’s turn,” they said. “It’s is about time that the meager are put on a pedestal and the government to become worthy of them; and not the other way around.”Toribiong and Mariur asked the people of the state to critical look at the government and to raise questions and offer solutions on how it can be of real service to the nation and the people it is ethically, obligated, and created to serve.Toribiong and Mariur were applauded for their sincerity, respect, courtesy, and most of all, their willingness to disclose of their stance on critical and problematic issues. The people of the north heard all that was said, offered their blessings, and asked the candidates to return when the weather clears.  Everyone went home pleased.
