Palau Horizon’s longest print reporter Bernadette H. Carreon, Island Times Joan Dairo and Tia Belau’s reporter Salome Villaflor received certificate of recognition for their continued support to the Embassy in disseminating information for the Overseas Filipino Workers in Palau.Ambassador Ramoncito Marino handed the certificates to the journalists at the Embassy office on Wednesday.The Embassy also recognized several other individuals for giving assistance to the Filipino workers especially during a crisis situation.The others who received certificates were Teresita C.Chen, manager of Islander, Allan P. Tuppil, Food and Beverage Manager of Palau Royal Resort, Joy F. Whipps, Grace Otsuka, Manny Kimpo, Dr. Minoru Ueki and Clara Ueki.Kumangay Bakery, The United Ilokanos on Palau and the Peleliu State Filipino Organization were also recognized.The owner of the Kumangay Bakery Masato Kumangay and the founder of the United Ilokanos on Palau Ben Asuncion were the ones who received the certificates.Otsuka and a representative from Peleliu State Filipino Organization were not around during the short ceremony.Kimpo, Dr. Uekie and Clara Ueki received their certificates ahead of time.Ambassador Marino said that these individuals were commended for helping the stranded fishermen and the run away workers.In January of 2007, there were 21 Filipino fishermen who were stranded in the country while in December of 2007 there were eleven.
