Fiji may pull out of Forum Leaders Meeting

Instead, Fiji officials have been advised to hold all their bilaterals with the 16 Forum dialogue partners in Niue.

Fiji’s interim Foreign Minister Ratu Epeli Nailatikau told Fiji Television he was disappointed that Fiji was not included in the dialogue.

The interim government has now written to the Forum chairman and Tongan Prime Minister Feleti Sevele asking him to intervene.

Ratu Epeli said Fiji might have to rethink its position in attending the meeting if it continues to be singled out by Australia and New Zealand.

While the New Zealand government has offered to hold the post dialogue meeting in Auckland, Fiji who is at the center of attention has been excluded.

Instead, the five-member Fiji delegation have been advised to hold all its bilaterals in Niue — which they say was discriminatory.

While the Fiji delegation led by the interim prime minister, has been assured a transit visa, this however is limited to the airport only.

And Ratu Epeli felt the time-limit handed down to them to hold bilaterals in Niue was unreasonable.

The Forum Leaders Meeting starts tomorrow.
