Nelson J Xu, of the Los Angeles-based Baumann & Associates, will talk about “CNMI Immigration Reform & Non-immigrant Visa” at the Saipan Community Church from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Last month, Guam immigration lawyer Lad Baumann was the guest speaker of the Saipan Chamber of Commerce.
Baumann discussed the impact of the federalization law on local businesses and their guest workers.
Irene N. Tantiado, a workers rights advocate and organizer of the forum, said Xu will focus mainly on the impact of the federalization law on the CNMI public.
“This is more on information dissemination to educate the people about the basic scenario when the federal system takes over local immigration and labor regulations,” Tantiado said.
Xu, for example, will talk about the concerns of guest workers who are married to U.S. citizens, she added.
Guest workers and even local residents are also expected to attend the forum, she said.
