Rengulbai, according to supporters, has served Palau for the past 30 years in the Ministry of Education. He served as a teacher for 14 years, a principal for 8 years, and since year 2000, had served as the chief of the Division of Personnel Management for the ministry. His decision to run for the HOD is based on his desire to serve the people of Melekeok in the OEK – to be the “voice of his people.”“Much of what I have done and experienced have been in the leadership position,” he said. “I’ve led students to learn, teachers to teach, and have led people into the committing and sacrificing some part of their lives – be it skills, knowledge, or mere companionship – to the betterment of the ministry for the future generations of Palau.”Rengulbai said I have led and “its time for me to do as Ken Kesey suggested: ‘you don’t lead by pointing and telling people some place to go. You lead by going to that place and making a case.’”He said that he is going to that place – OEK – as a representative of the people of Melekeok State; and will make their cases heard. There will be difficult challenges and hurdles to overcome, he said, “but I have learned from experiences; and I am well prepared.”As of yesterday, Rengulbai, 29 other HOD candidates, 29 senatorial candidates, and 3 presidential candidates (with running mates) have filed their nominating petitions. Any other interested candidate for any of the OEK seats or presidency and vice presidency has until Wednesday, August 6 before 4:30 p.m., to file his or her nominating petition.
