THE Senate on Thursday unanimously confirmed the nominations of Elvira M. Mesngon to the Civil Service Commission; Daniel Taitano to the Commonwealth Economic Development Authority board; and Valerie M. Atalig to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board.
Senate Vice President Donald M. Manglona, in an acting capacity as chair of the Senate Executive Appointments and Governmental Investigations Committee, moved to adopt the standing committee reports recommending the nominees’ confirmation during a Senate session in the Rota Mayor’s Office conference room.
All the seven senators present voted yes to confirm the nominations of Mesngon, Taitano and Atalig.
Senate Floor Leader Corina Magofna and the EAGI committee chair, Sen. Celina Babauta, were excused.
Senate President Edith Deleon Guerrero noted that the administration had sent her a message conveying that Gov. Arnold I. Palacios and Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang were in full support of the nominees “and they are happy they were all confirmed this morning.”
During a Senate session on Aug. 4, the senators confirmed the nominations of former Gov. Juan N. Babauta and Mariah Barcinas to the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. board of trustees; Rebecca Agnes White to the CUC board; and Michelle Olopai Joab to the CSC.
All the five senators present voted to confirm the nominations of Babauta, White and Joab.
Magofna, Sen. Babauta, Sen. Jude U. Hofschneider and Sen. Frank Q. Cruz were excused.
Four of the five senators present voted to confirm Barcinas to the CHCC board. Sen. Paul A. Manglona abstained as Barcinas is his niece.
Special Assistant to the Administration Oscar M. Babauta, on behalf of the governor and the lt. governor, expressed his deepest gratitude to the senators for confirming all the nominees.
