Governor OKs spending measures for Tinian, Saipan

GOVERNOR Arnold I. Palacios last week signed local bills appropriating poker fees collections for the Tinian Mayor’s Office and the Tinian Casino Gaming Control Commission.

He likewise approved H.L.B. 23-16, which appropriates funds for Saipan’s Precinct 4 projects.

Authored by Rep. Patrick San Nicolas, House Local Bill 23-13, which is now Tinian Local Law 23-3, appropriates $124,000 in Tinian poker fees collection as follows:

• $24,000 for the Tinian Mayor’s Office’s discretionary account; and

• $100,000 for the Tinian Casino Gaming Control Commission personnel.

The governor also approved San Nicolas’ H.L.B. 23-18, which is now T.L.L. 23-4, re-appropriating a total of $76,000 in poker fees collections as follows:

• $12,000 for the Tinian Mayor’s Office’s discretionary account;

• $54,000 for the Tinian Casino Gaming Control Commission;

• $5,000 for the Tinian & Aguiguan Legislative Delegation; and

• $5,000 for the Tinian Municipal Council operations.

Saipan appropriation

Authored by House Vice Speaker Joel Camacho and Rep. Malcolm Omar, H.L.B. 23-16   is now S.L.L. 23-4. Its funding source is the leftover funds from the exclusive casino license fee paid by Imperial Pacific International in 2019.

The measure appropriates the following funds as follows:

•  $90,000 for the renovation and construction of pavilions and recreational areas and public buildings in Precinct 4;

•  $69,775 for the Talaabwogh Stars Association operations to conduct sports programs;

•  $69,775 for the Natibu Sports Association to conduct sports, arts and cultural programs;

•  $75,000 for the Commonwealth Federation of Golf Association for the creation of a junior golf program; and,

•  $10,000 to complete the power pole distribution in Precinct 4.
