ISIDRO A. Pangelinan, and Michael I. Olaitiman were arrested by the Department of Public Safety police officers in two separate domestic violence incidents.
Pangelinan, 55, was charged with assault and battery, assault, vandalism, and disturbing the peace.
He appeared before Superior Court Associate Judge Wesley Bogdan who imposed a $5,000 cash bail at a bail hearing on Tuesday.
At the hearing, the defendant was represented by Chief Prosecutor Douglas Hartig while Assistant Attorney General Steven Kessell appeared for the government.
Judge Bogdan remanded Pangelinan to the custody of the Department of Corrections after the hearing and ordered the defendant to return to court on Aug. 23 at 10 a.m. for a preliminary hearing, and on Aug. 28 at 9 a.m. for an arraignment.
In the complaint against Pangelinan, DPS stated that on Sunday, Aug. 13, at around 10:44 a.m., 911 dispatch received a call from an anonymous caller reporting a disturbance at a residence in Koblerville just north of ABCD Market.
Police arrived at the scene and met Pangelinan’s ex-partner and a minor.
The first victim stated that Pangelinan punched her while the second victim stated that he grabbed her face and pushed her against the wall. “Victim 2” managed to chase the suspect out of the room, police said.
The suspect kept shouting that he would ” burn the house down” with them still inside, police said, adding that the suspect also damaged the first victim’s car.
Second case
Olaitiman, 28, was charged with assault and battery, vandalism, and disturbing the peace.
He appeared before Judge Bogdan who imposed a $3,000 cash bail for his release at a bail hearing on Wednesday.
Because there was a conflict with the Public Defender’s Office in representing Olaitiman, the court will appoint an attorney to represent the defendant. Assistant Attorney General Frances Demapan appeared for the government.
After the hearing, the judge remanded Olaitiman to the custody of Corrections and ordered the defendant to return to court on Aug. 23 at 9 a.m. and on Aug. 28 at 9 a.m. for arraignment.
According to the complaint filed by the police, on Tuesday, Aug. 15, at about 12:57 a.m., DPS 911 dispatch received a call from a minor reporting a disturbance at an apartment in Afetnas.
Officers responded, arrived, and confirmed this incident.
Officers met with the victim, who had visible and fresh injuries on her face. Police learned from the victim that prior to the incident, they had returned home from an event around midnight.
At home, the suspect accused the victim of cheating on him, which started the argument. At some point, the suspect threw an electric fan at the victim. He then grabbed the car keys and placed them in his pocket, but the victim struggled to retrieve the keys.
“The suspect choked the victim and punched her twice in the face, causing the victim to feel dizzy and [she] blacked out for a while,” police said.
When she came to, she screamed for help. Medics on the scene treated the victim, police added.
