THE Nibbler as well as the consolation and side-bet winners of this year’s event received cash prizes during the awards ceremony Saturday at Smiling Cove Marina.
In the biggest catch category, the Nibbler, captained by Ed Diaz, caught a mafuti that weighed 3.9 pounds to take home the top prize of $1,000 cash. The Nibbler has won four of the five annual ISLA Mafuti derbies since 2018.
WTF Where’s the Fish, captained by Frank Pangelinan, settled for the $700 second prize with a mafuti that weighed 3.8 pounds.
In third place was Atalig 3 J’s, captained by Joseph Atalig, with a 3.55-pound mafuti to win $500.
Ina-Ka, captained by Edward C. Sablan, came in fourth with a catch weighing 3.2 pounds to take home $300.
In fifth place was Team Sunrisers, captained by Ray Santos, which won $200 for catching a 2.7-pound mafuti.
For the side bet of heaviest tarakitu caught, Captain Frederic Guintu of the Golden Green that won $720 cash for catching a 3.75 pounder.
