GOVERNOR Ralph DLG Torres last week nominated Allen M. Perez to represent Tinian on the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board of directors.
Perez is the chief of staff of Tinian Mayor Edwin P. Palacios.
If confirmed by the Senate, Perez will serve a four-year term on the CUC board.
In his appointment letter to Perez, the governor said, “I am confident that you are qualified and will be an asset to this important board. If my office can be of any assistance relative to your confirmation, please let me know.”
In his letter, the governor also noted that the statutory employment restriction that prohibits government employees from serving as CUC board members “places an undue burden as it limits the pool of otherwise qualified potential appointees from Tinian.”
The governor said he is “waiving such restriction” as authorized by Title 1, Section 2901 of the Commonwealth Code pertaining to appointments in the executive branch.
In his letter to Senate President Jude U. Hofschneider, the governor said he is confident that Perez’s membership on the CUC board “is critical to ensure consistency and continuity in fulfilling the goals and objectives of CUC.”
Also last week, the governor re-nominated CUC Board Chairwoman Miranda Lynn V. Manglona of Rota.
The other members of the CUC board are former Board of Education Chairwoman Janice Tenorio and former Imperial Pacific International Chief Executive Officer Donald Browne.
