THE Toros and the Blue Jays advanced to the semifinals of the 2023 Saipan Baseball League U12 Tournament after eliminating their respective opponents Saturday at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Pangelinan Baseball Field.
The Toros secured their spot by besting the Little Cubs, 11-9.
The Little Cubs drew first blood by quickly filling the bases and reaching home safely for a 4-0 advantage.
The Toros retaliated with an even stronger offensive performance as Leighton Tenorio and Caleb Cabrera highlighted a seven-run onslaught with a triple each, allowing their team to take control, 7-4.
After scoring single runs in the second inning, the Little Cubs regained the lead with four more runs in the top of the fourth, 9-7.
The Toros, however, equalized with a run and added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to lead once again, 11-9.
The Little Cubs had one more chance to seize victory, but three consecutive outs ended the game.
Blue Jays vs Twins
The Blue Jays, for their part, defeated the Twins in a high-scoring game, 17-11.
After two innings, the Twins led 3-2. But in the top of the third, the Blue Jays finally found their wings as they unleashed seven straight runs to take over the driver’s seat, 9-3.
Their lead continued to grow with two runs in the top of the fourth followed by six more in the fifth.
Although the Twins fought back, they were held to eight runs only as the Blue Jays sealed the deal to emerge victorious, 17-11.
