Fossil wins 2022 Ye Olde Saipanne Golfe Clubbe Championship

GREG “Fossil” Koebel shot a 75 at the Lao Lao West golf course in windy conditions on Saturday to become the Ye Olde Saipanne Golfe Clubbe’s 2022 Champion Golfer of the Year.

By employing his trusty decades-olde Sasquatche driver to keep his balls in the fairway and sinking a plethora of short to midrange putts, Fossil was able to hold off Juan “Juj” Lizama, who tragically missed a few tap-ins to finish one stroke back at 76. Tim “Tex” Brasuell started slowly, ballooning to a 42 on the front nine, but despite his lovely backside score of 36, it was too little, too late for The Man From Dinttin. Rounding out the top five were last year’s champion Bill “Supersandy” Riggen who shot 80 and 2019’s champion “Double” Dan Harding, with an 81.

After the round, an awards ceremony was held at Wilde Bill’s Bar and Grille where Fossil was presented with the perpetual Claret Jugge and fitted with the Champion’s jacket by Supersandy. Following the presentation, the Clubbe members enjoyed copious refreshments as provided by the Wilde Bill’s staff and regaled each other with fascinating stories revolving mostly around the theme of how they would have won the championship if they hadn’t “had such horribly bad luck on that one hole.”
