OUTGOING United Filipino Organization President Marcelo “Mar” Masilungan received a plaque of recognition last week from Philippine Consul General to Guam Patrick John U. Hilado for his dedicated service to the Filipino community in the CNMI, and valued assistance to the Philippine consulate.

A businessman, Masilungan has served two terms as UFO president since 2019. He also holds various positions in different nonprofit organizations on island.

In his remarks, Masilungan expressed his gratitude to all UFO members and other Filipino organizations that are serving the community in collaboration with local residents and the Commonwealth government.

Hilado is the new Philippine consul general to Guam, and was on Tinian and Saipan last week to conduct consular services.

He thanked the Filipino community of Saipan, saying “we are very happy that our partnership with the community has withstood the pandemic. UFO members, volunteers, and many individuals have held the fort, and have been very helpful to us.”

At a gathering hosted by Masilungan at his residence in Dandan on Dec. 2, Hilado also discussed many issues affecting Filipinos with the leaders and members of Filipino community organizations.

In addition, Hilado answered questions pertaining to labor documentation, repatriation, satellite consulate office services, and an extension of a national ID issued to Filipinos in the CNMI.
