CUC says load shedding reduced to 2 hours

“This is a good sign and we are happy that we able to limit the hours of power outages,” Gary P. Camacho, Commonwealth Utilities Corp. power division acting manager, said yesterday.

Engines 3, 6 and 8 of Power Plant 1 are producing 12.5 megawatts while Engine 6 of Power Plant 2 is providing 2 megawatts, Camacho said, adding that they are hoping that additional engines from Power Plant 2 will be online soon.

“The repair and maintenance personnel have been working very hard,” he told Variety.

Last week, CUC hired nine technicians and mechanic for the repair and rehabilitation of the power engines.

Yesterday, CUC issued a new revised load shedding for Sept. 6 to Sept 12.

In a press statement, Camacho said the revised schedule reflects the improved power supply from Power Plants 1 and  2.

“The cool temperatures have also been very beneficial in keeping the engine cooling systems from exceeding their maximum capacity and preventing the protective devises from activating and shutting the engines down,” he said.

Camacho said CUC will make all efforts to keep to the schedule.

However, he added, the schedule may be modified in future public notices and may be altered to address particular emergencies when necessary.

CUC apologizes for any inconvenience the load-shedding schedule has imposed on the community and will continue to work diligently to resolve the problem,” he said.
