Autonomous beats DOC; enters 2nd round playoff

Autonomous basically went unopposed during the entire game with DOC, dumping a total of 14 points over the government agency in the final half of play.

Ponce Rasa played his game according to his plan, firing 29 shots, and in the process enabling Autonomous to leave behind DOC.

Luis Iguel of DOC did everything he could with his 27 points, but it did not do his team any good.

Gregorio Blas and Maverick Itibus tried to help Iguel in the offense, but they, too, failed to come up with more scores to contribute.

Autonomous’ fast play, and aggressive defense helped create a wide margin of deficit against DOC.

During the first half of play, DOC was already trailing by five points; but by the final period it was behind by 13 points, until DOC could no longer catch up, and respond to most shots made by Autonomous on the hard court.

Autonomous is now up on the list, waiting for whichever team will win between NMC and Legislature.

Autonomous earlier decided to forfeit its game with NMC, handing over the pennant championship in a snap to the college cagers.

Scores:

Autonomous – 82: Rasa – 29; Ed Diaz – 23; Tim Wesley – 7; Chris Camacho – 8; Bobby Coldeen – 6; Jun Aaron – 7; and Lito Castanares – 2.

DOC – 68: Iguel – 27; Peter Mendiola – 7; Maverick Itibus – 10; Daniel Joab – 4; Gregorio Blas – 18; and Norris Kwon – 2.
