Youth Congress voter turnout lowest in 3 years

3,549 registered for this year’s election but only 975 cast their ballots — the lowest in three years.

In 2006, 1,399 voted; in 2007, 1,919.

Preliminary records showed that Tinian High School recorded the biggest turnout — 26 or six more than what was expected.

Saipan International School’s turnout was 89 percent, with 32 of the 36 registered voters casting their ballots.

At Grace Christian Academy, 74 of the 86 registered voters cast their ballots.

At Northern Marianas Academy, 20 of the 28 registered voters participated.

At Marianas Baptist Academy, 46 of the 70 students showed up.

At Northern Marianas College, 25 of the 46 registered voters cast their ballots.

At the biggest public high school — Marianas High School — 956 registered but only 217 voted on Monday translating to a turnout of only 28 percent.

Saipan Southern High recorded a 50 percent turnout — 500 registered, 250 voted.

At Rota High School, only 30 of the 83 registered voters participated.

At Mount Carmel School, 45 of 150 voters cast their ballots.

Kagman High School had the lowest turnout — 5 percent. Only 25 of the 537 registered voters cast their ballots.

At the precinct level, the voter turnout was also low:

• Precinct 1 — 5 percent

• Precinct 2 — 9 percent

• Precinct 3 — 20 percent

• Precinct 4 — 17 percent

• Precinct 5 — 17 percent

• Precinct 6 — 30 percent
