He said Rota Mayor Joseph S. Inos has already talked with these interested businessmen who visited the island recently.
“A lot of interested casino investors have visited the mayor’s office lately,” Calvo told Variety.
He refused to name the investors, saying that the Rota casino commission still has to meet them
Commission Chairman Diego M. Songao has been in constant meeting with the other commissioners to finalize the regulations they implement, Calvo said.
Gov. Benigno R. Fitial, he added, will also bring prospective casino investors to Rota.
“This is a very good sign for the island,” Calvo said.
Once the regulations are ready, Calvo said the commission can “immediately entertain the casino investors.”
He expects the commission to announce the regulations in November.
Variety learned that the commission has already hired a executive director, a legal counsel and a professional consultant to help formulate its rules and regulations, policies for the island’s casino industry.
Calvo, however, could not disclose their names.
Songao, for his part, was unavailable for comment yesterday.
