Calvani Pangelinan Deleon Guerrero assumed his post last week, replacing Debra Inos who stepped down and went back to her old position as community volunteer worker for the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs.
Deleon Guerrero, originally from Saipan, obtained his bachelor’s degree in justice administration and master’s degree in criminal justice in Hawaii where he worked as a police officer.
Deleon Guerrero is now stationed at the Kagman Juvenile Detention Facility.
“I want to put stability and control at DYS,” he said yesterday. “I want to work with the staff and make positive changes in the environment.”
Deleon Guerrero said his degrees and experience in law enforcement will help him develop positive changes for DYS.
Last week, Deleon Guerrero was among the local officials who accompanied a visiting team of federal officials who inspected the CNMI’s correctional facilities.
There were some concerns raised by the federal visitors, but Deleon Guerrero said “we’re closely working with the department (DCCA) and Department of Corrections to address all those concerns.”
He declined to elaborate but added that “all issues” are being “fixed.”
“I want to make sure that everything runs well for the division,” he said.
DYS has 22 personnel.
“Whatever issues we have now and in the past, we can resolve them,” Deleon Guerrero said, refusing to elaborate.
