Moti to stand trial on child sex charge

The Fijian-born Australian faces a federal sex tourism charge over an incident alleged to have occurred in Vanuatu in 1997.

He was extradited from the Solomon Islands in December, after earlier being arrested and then evading authorities in Papua New Guinea.

Moti’s lawyer said he does not expect the trial to start before the end of the year.  The maximum penalty for the offense is 17 years in jail.
