Julio Omtei Ringang in an interview on Friday said that if the escapees will be convicted of the charge, the detainees are facing a maximum sentence of three years.
Criminal Investigation Division is now investigating the incident.Ringang said that on August 22, two detainees escaped from prison while he was on leave.The detainees went to the back of the chapel and jumped out of the fence and escaped.Ringang said the escape happened during daytime.The fugitives proceeded to the hospital but were recaptured later when personnel of the hospital called police and reported their whereabouts.Ringang said the detainees escaped at around 5 p.m. and were recaptured at 7 p.m.Ringang said according to the detainees, they needed medicine that’s why they escaped and run to the hospital.But the Chief of Corrections said that those are just alibi because the detainees are in good health conditions when they escaped from prison.The detainees were detained for aggravated assault and assault and battery charges.A charge of escape will be additionally charged to them for escaping the prison.
