OEK Ok’d Consumer Protection measure

Senate Bill No. 7-235-SD1, HD2, CD1 also included the rider which will extend the Bureau of Lands and Survey (BLS) cadastral work until Oct. 30,2008.

The measure will ensure that consumers are protected by requiring retail stores to put in the price tags.“A lack of consistent price displays for retail goods allows merchants to manipulate prices, mislead customers into thinking they are getting the best price, takes away retailers’ incentive to compete with each other and takes away consumers’ opportunity to shop for the best deals on good,” the measure stated. The measure makes it unlawful for retail stores not to disclose the unit price of items, display the tag of a retail item, or affix the unit price of the retail item and if the price is not visible to the consumer. The BLS rider meanwhile stated that until Oct. 30, the BLS will continue on with its work of designation of areas and survey of all lands and monumentation of all land with the country. It stated that the BLS’s duties include but not limited to the registration of land claims issuing the required notices under the Chapter, providing monumentation providing the Land Court with the required information for Land Court hearings and providing temporary and permanent mapping of land parcels and boundaries with respect to the ownership of all land within the Republic.
