Feds to fund over $100M in NMI airport projects

The required local matching fund is $5 million only.

These projects are for the improvement, expansion, procurement of equipment and rehabilitation of the airports on Saipan, Tinian and Rota and their facilities.

CPA will get $37.7 million this year, $32.8 million in 2009 and $30.1 million in 2010.

Saipan will be the recipient of the biggest FAA grants — $67.9 million for 20 projects.

 Tinian will get $20.1 million for nine projects while Rota is the recipient of $17.5 million for eight project.

The Saipan projects:

• Airport runway 1,300-foot extension,  $21.9 million

• Airport runway rehabilitation, $10.7 million

• Instrument landing system upgrade, $4.2 million

• ARFF expansion, $4.3 million

 • Airport training facility improvements, $3.9 million

• Water system and fire alarm upgrade, $3.1 million

• Airport road improvements, $2.4 million

• Commuter apron expansion, $2.3 million

• Airport generator upgrade, $2.3 million

• Passenger loading bridge replacement for Gates 3 and 6, $2.1 million

• Terminal modernization plan, $1.9 million

 • Airport drainage system, $1.9 million

• Runway lighting system upgrade, $1.8 million

• Flight information display system, $1.3 million

• Runway sweeper, $194,250

• Master plan update, $315,000

• Taxiway B rehabilitation, $525,000

• Taxiway signage improvements, $525,000

• One 1,500-galloon ARFF vehicle, $892,000

• Public address system installation, $819,000

The Tinian projects:

• Relocation of ARFF facility, $6.8 million

•  Aviation fuel farm facility, $2.9 million

• Expansion of  high speed exit taxiway B, $2.6 million

• Construction of taxiway E, $1.7 million

• Security access system, $1.9 million

• Apron taxi lane improvement, $1.9 million

• Perimeter security fence replacement, $1.5 million

• Rotating beacon replacement, $183,000

• Airport master plan update, $315,000

The Rota projects:

• Runway improvement, $6.3 million

• Instrument landing system installation, $3.9 million

• Aviation fuel farm facility, $2.6 million

• Security access system, $1.9 million

• Replacement of perimeter security fence, $1.3 million

• Existing apron treatment, $630,000

• Master plan update, $315,000

• Procurement of rapid intervention vehicle, $367,000
