Bureau of Public Health Director Dr. Stevenson Kuartei during President Remengesau weekly press conference said that the Avian Flu Task Force has taken the outbreak under control.
The National Avian/Pandemic Influenza/Emerging/Re-emerging Diseases Advisory & Coordination Team (Multi-Agency Taskforce) convened on August 29, 2008, and launched a national campaign, including extensive public education and nation-wide clean up efforts to get rid of dengue mosquito breeding areas.The National Emergency Management Office (NEMO) advised the Taskforce to coordinate and activate response efforts to clean up the island for the whole month of September, in partnership with Rubekul Belau, Mechesil Belau, and the Governors’ Association.These efforts were launched to prevent the outbreak from becoming more wide-spread.President Remengesau tasked Vice President Elias Camsek Chin to spearhead the national clean up.Koror State has already begun its clean-up campaign by having residents pile garbage alongside the road for large trucks to pick up.According to Kuartei hardly hit by the diseases are in age group of 10 to 14 years old.The cases are also concentrated in Koror.
