After the exit of two fouled out players of Autonomous, a potential brawl between two cagers, some slips from PTI’s men, and a total of 48 personal fouls committed on the floor, PTI emerged champion, 80-70.
The solid defense provided by PTI’s Kelvin Fitial, Bruce Berline, Edsel Mendoza, Ryan Sanciangco, and Elmer Esdrellon proved too great for Autonomous to breach as the telecom guys applied a tight watch of their opponent’s every move.
PTI capitalized on two areas of the game — rebound and defense, which Autonomous was basically lacking.
The telecom firm applied pressure on Autonomous without permitting Bob Coldeen and Tim Wesley to fire a single shot behind the three-point territory.
Fitial helped save the ball for PTI under the basket, shooting 29 points total.
Diaz of Autonomous got fouled out in the second half, signaling the loss of a major player.
In one episode, Autonomous was already trailing behind PTI by 10 points, but was able to close in eventually.
Jun Aaron of Autonomous made a three-point shot in the final 6 minutes and 47 seconds of the fourth quarter, tying the score at 66.
Later Coldeen was able to steal the ball but he was not able to convert his attempt into a point.
On the other hand, PTI’s Esdrellon made a three-point shot, pouring 69 points for his team.
Ponce Rasa tried to echo Esdrellon’s shot, but he was unsuccessful. Time left: 5 minutes, 2 seconds.
A foul made by Autonomous allowed PTI’s Fitial to step on the free throw line, but made only a single basket, pushing PTI to 70 points.
With three minutes remaining in the last quarter, Chris Camacho of Autonomous shot a two-pointer, tying the score at 70.
But PTI responded with a two-pointer, and a rainbow shot by Fitial in the last minute, pulling the team’s score to 75 points.
Wesley tried his hands at the free throw line but he failed twice.
Already in foul trouble, Autonomous forced the clock to stop by fouling Fitial who made good two of his free throws, bringing PTI to 77 points.
Wesley graduated from the game with a desperate foul against PTI’s Sanciangco.
In the end, PTI came up with three more shots to seal the game.
