Curfew siren to stop

The 10 p.m. siren will no longer be heard by Wednesday based on the recommendations of citizens.

“As I go to town hall meetings around Koror talking to citizens, the people have expressed appreciation and understanding for the siren. They tell me that it has been effective and that the kids are now coming home on time. Based on these conversations and their recommendation I am going to suspend the sounding of  the siren,” Chin said.Chin said that the use of siren was established after the State of Koror sought assistance in enforcing its curfew. The siren was first established when the Koror State government sought assistance in enforcing its curfew. He said that the emergency siren was the best option at that time due to limited number of police officers available to inform the public.Chin said that the emergency siren contributed to the decline in curfew related offenses.“After listening to the people, I feel that the public is now educated about the curfew law and the siren is no longer needed. I am that there have been citizens negatively affected by its sounding and I thank them for their patience.”He said that he thinks that the curfew enforcement has been successful since the children are now making it home at a reasonable time.“Our children are the future of Palau, so their education is of great importance to me. I would like to thank the parents and children for their cooperation with this important law,” Chin said.
