Qarase was commenting on interim Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama’s proposal to initiate a President’s Forum for political parties to discuss and agree on agendas to take the country toward constitutional and sustainable democratic governance.
The forum was to take place at the end of this month.
“This is by far the most positive development proposed by the interim government,” said Qarase.
His Soqosoqo Duavata Ni Lewenivanua party has expressed interest to be part of the forum.
“The party welcomes this proposal and we’re very supportive,” said Qarase.
“Since I returned from Vanuabalavu I had written to the prime minister to initiate dialogue but this was without any success but this is behind us. We’re positive that this proposed forum will take place,” he said.
Qarase also indicated that the party would “certainly come up with a number of items” for discussion at the forum.
Commodore Bainimarama said it is time to decide through constructive dialogue and consensus on taking the country forward.
