The said basketball league will be the first time the Pilipino Contract Workers Association will host a sports event.
Fernando “Pando” Muleta, sports coordinator and member of PilCoWA, said the seven caging teams that have earlier expressed interest to join the league have finally submitted a complete roster of players and have gathered enough funds from their respective sponsors to come up with their team uniforms.
The names of the seven teams that will participate in the upcoming league include Olivos, Pacific Telecommunications Inc., MIGS, Century Insurance Center, AON Insurance, C & R Distributor, and Pacific Trading Corp.
Two more teams will likely be added in the league membership in the coming weeks even after the league has already started, Muleta pointed out.
He said these prospective teams will still be accepted in the league so long as they can settle their fees and organize themselves before two league matches are over.
Muleta said the opening day of the league will already pit two pairs of team.
A draw lot will be conducted to pick which teams will play in the first day of the league, he said.
The PilCoWA/San Miguel Beer Basketball League on Sunday next week will begin with a parade at 3:30 p.m.
The league will give special award to the team with the best uniform and the team with the best muse.
Earlier, PilCoWA has been planning about the rules & regulations and other details of the basketball league for about three months.
The kick off date of the caging league has been rescheduled a few times due to problems with teams that have not yet organized themselves.
