Marine Law officer denies beating his superior

Mark Remeliik appeared for arraignment on Friday and entered a plea of not guilty to the assault and battery, attempted assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and misconduct in public office charges.

Chief Public Defender Garth Backe represented the defendant while Assistant Attorney General Tony DeRuiz appeared on behalf of the government.Remeliik posted a $500 surety bond and has been released from custody.He was ordered by the court to stay away from the victim, Ellender Ngirameketii and the location of the incident except for telephone communication with individual other than the victim.The court ordered the defendant not to communicate with the victim through third parties.The status conference has been set for October 31 at 10 am.Remeliik was charged for punching Ngirameketii and for attempting to hit him with a pipe.The defendant got mad when Ngirameketii, the Chief of Marine Law Enforcement Division, confronted him for being intoxicated while on duty.Ngirameketii ordered Remeliik to “stand down” for operating a ship without proper authorization.
