To top the pressure on Paez, Rollers II was leading one point in the remaining minutes of play – thanks to Mike Manglona’s three-point shot.
So, Paez did what a good team player would do: Jump from behind the three-point territory as soon as opening is available.
Paez connected to the basket with his three points, all right, and tied the score at 46 with Rollers II.
This started the ball bouncing off the hardcourt for Rollers I as they charged down their opponent’s basket with good results.
Rollers I Don Teregeyo backed up Paez’ shot with his own two-pointers, creating a two-point deficit against Rollers II.
Rainier DeLeon Guerrero followed suit with two lay ups which translated into four points for Rollers I.
Eventually, Teregeyo sealed the match with five more shots via fastbreak attempts, and brought Rollers I to 58 point-final score.
And Rollers II’s wheels were left stuck at 46 points.
This is the scenario at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium on Tuesday’s game in the Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League.
Rollers II’s loss lessened their chances of advancing to the playoffs, having won only one match and lost eight in the league.
Meanwhile, with its recent win, Rollers I zoomed to second place in the team standings with a 6-1 win-loss card.
