The 19-year-old intruder was arrested at the scene by responding police officers while victims Keith Mesebeluu, his wife Lyola, 27 and 2-year-old daughter Kia were all rushed to the hospital.
Keith Mesebeluu and his daughter are now in stable conditions but Lyola was pronounced dead by the attending physician.The victims were all asleep in their apartment in Kapiolani Boulevard, Hawaii, when the suspect broke into their residence and attacked them.The former Headstart Director and her husband former House Speaker Augustine Mesebeluu left Palau Sunday to be with the surviving victims.Keith is working as a chef at the Japanese eatery while Lyola was an employee of Bank of Hawaii.Star Bulletin stated that Keith Mesebeluu was asleep in the living room when awakened by his wife’s scream.Keith Mesebeluu rushed to the bedroom and found a man standing over his wife and was stabbing her repeatedly.A scuffle ensued where Keith Mesebeluu managed to disarm the intruder.The news online stated that the victim was stabbed in the torso before he was able to disarm the suspect.The news online stated that neighbors called police when they heard Keith Mesebeluu’s scream.Police recovered a large kitchen knife at the scene.The news online also stated that the suspect tried to enter the neighbor’s unit as well.The suspect, who suffered lacerations to his hand as a result of the scuffle, was arrested for attempted first degree murder, second-degree murder, two counts of attempted second-degree murder and first degree burglary, the news online stated.
