Administration not endorsing a delegate candidate

Press Secretary Charles P. Reyes Jr. said the administration is wiling to work with whoever the electorate chooses to represent them in the U.S. Congress.

“The administration is prepared to work with any elected delegate in a non-partisan manner and with the best interests of the CNMI in mind. The administration respects the will and the choice of the people,” said Reyes in an e-mail.

There are nine candidates vying for the delegate seat.

They are: 1. John Oliver DLR. Gonzales, Ind.; 2. Chong Won, Ind.; 3. former Tinian Sen. David M. Cing, Democrat; 4. retired Judge Juan T. Lizama, Ind.; 5. Washington Rep. Pete A. Tenorio, GOP; 6. Sen. Luis P. Crisostimo, Ind.; 7. teacher John H. Davis, Ind.; 8. former Election Commission Executive Director Gregorio C. Sablan, Ind.; and 9. Saipan municipal council member Felipe Q. Atalig, Ind.

The Election Commission has assured that the ballots will be prepared in time for the Nov. 4 election, which is a federal Election Day in the states.

The commission must designate all polling places and precincts by Monday.

The posting and distribution of specimen ballots are due on Oct. 28.

The commission said 12,947 citizens have registered to vote.
