On Friday, the bill was passed and transmitted to the Senate. The measure amends RPPL No. 7-42, and that the bill when approved, will call for the collection of $30 from tourist and visitor as environmental protection arrival fee.
Under the measure each airline operating in Palau will be the one to collect the green fee for tourists and visitors.The Green Fee collection shall be collected with the departure tax as set forth in 40 PNC §1403 and the regulations promulgated under it.Each airline shall transfer all funds collected every fifth day of each month.The bill added that The Division of Customs shall be responsible for collecting the Green Fee from all other tourists and visitors.The measure also cited that the Bureau of Immigration shall be responsible for collecting the arrival fee Green Fee from tourists and visitors arriving in the Republic of Palau.The Bureau of Immigration shall use an outside source, such as the International Air Transport Association (IATA), to collect the applicable fees from tourists and visitors arriving by airplane by imposing the fee at the time of airfare purchase.Within 30 days after the effective date of these amendments, the Director of the Bureau of Revenue, Customs and Taxation is taxed with promulgating regulations to implement this amendments.
