Jr. Nationals switch off Rollers I’s powerhouse in a ‘comeback’ match

Currently, Rollers I are on second place in the league’s team standings with six wins and two losses.

Jr. Nationals almost lost to Rollers I in their recent match at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium in what could be described hold-your-breath game as the team came out with only seven players in the rosters.

Joseph White, Jericho Cruz, Marvin Rabauliman, Jose Castro, John Villagomez, Allen Moses, and Hartin Williams made up the squad of Jr. Nationals under Coach Rufino “Tony” Aguon.

Despite their small number, Jr. Nationals made up in the scoreboard, posting 61 points versus Rollers I’s 55.

In a quick interview after the match, Allen Moses, Jr. Nationals’ power forward, commented he was sure they can catch up with Rollers I despite the growing deficit by as much as 13 to 15 points.

Rollers I practically ruled the first quarter with Jr. Nationals behind their heels, trying to close in the gap.

Rollers I basically showed some muscle under the basket at every possible rebound, whereas Jr. Nationals “lost touch” with the ball due to haste and to lack of anticipation in their shots.

Miscalculated shots and several turnovers gave way for Rollers I to fashion a nine-point deficit against Jr. Nationals who seemed to have been trying to find some ways to solve the damage inflicted to their defense.

The end of the first quarter saw Rollers I with 31 points, while Jr. Nationals’ with 22.

By the second period, Jr. Nationals were still trailing behind Rollers I.

However, Jr. Nationals upped their defensive strategy and offense, attempting to harass and steal the ball at every opportunity.

Two steals by Joseph White of Jr. Nationals them to tie the score at 44 with Rollers I.

Jr. Nationals’ Jericho Cruz backed up White’s ball steals with the needed basket.
