Judge Ramona V. Manglona yesterday ordered Isman Bokuku to appear for all court hearings, obey all commonwealth and federal laws and not leave Saipan without court permission.
He was told to observe a 7 p.m.-6 a.m. curfew and have no contact with the victims, whether directly or indirectly.
Manglona set the arraignment for Oct. 20 at 9 a.m., and the preliminary hearing for Oct. 16 at 9 a.m.
The court found probable cause to file charges against the defendant for one count of assault with a dangerous weapon, one count for assault and battery and one count for disturbing the peace.
Detective Simon T. Manacop of the Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigation Bureau, in his affidavit, stated that they received a report for domestic disturbance at about 12:57 a.m. on Oct. 8 in Chalan Kanoa.
Police officers who were dispatched to the scene saw two men restraining the defendant on the ground. His girlfriend told police that he punched her three times on her face and slapped her. She said the defendant threw a wooden bench at the back of her head for which she sustained lacerations.
The victim’s sister heard the commotion and went outside to try to pacify the defendant but she said he bit her forearm. The defendant was brought to the Department of Corrections where he was booked and detained.
