3 Tobacco and Alcohol Inspectors sworn-in

The inspectors who were sworn-in by Vice President Elias Camsek Chin are Danihy Mad, Thomas Rumong and Dwight Ngiraibai.

The three inspectors will be working under the command of Bureau of Commercial Development Director Alonso Joseph.Chin gave the officers advises and reminded them to perform their duties with honor and integrity.Director Joseph in an interview yesterday said that the inspectors will work with the Police Department in inspecting and monitoring the establishments in Palau to ensure that no one violates the law particularly the laws about tobacco and alcohol.The Director said the inspectors are allowed to issue citation to whoever is found violating the law or to those establishments that will sell cigarettes and alcohol to minors.The inspectors are also allowed to confiscate illegal alcohol and cigarettes.But Director Joseph said the inspectors are not allowed to arrest any violators.“Only police officers can do that. The inspectors will just issue citation and the police make the arrest,”Joseph said.The Director said that their office is in charge of the issuance of license to establishments that sells tobacco and alcohol.Joseph added that no one is allowed to drink alcohol anywhere but to bars and licensed establishments only especially in Koror.The other place allowed to drink alcohol is the Rock Islands.The Bureau of Commercial Development is under the Ministry of Commerce and Trade. In other news, Inosencio Meteolechol was also sworn-in as a police officer on Friday.Meteolechol was sworn-in by Bureau of Public Safety Director Norvert H. Yano.Meteolechol will be serving as a 32-hour reserve officer.
