The CPA board’s personnel committee chose Camacho, the president and owner of EFC Engineers & Architects, over two other applicants for the position — acting CPA Executive Director Ignacio Perez and Retirement Fund Administrator Mark Aguon.
CPA Chairman Jose Lifoifoi said they are expecting Camacho to be on board “very soon.”
“It’s just a matter of informing him about the final selection,” Lifoifoi said.
Camacho, who told CPA he could not accept the job last month, declined to comment yesterday pending a notification from the agency.
Earlier, because EFC Engineers & Architects was CPA’s contractor, there were concerns regarding possible conflict of interests if Camacho was named the agency’s executive director.
“Now that he already removed his name from any of the existing contracts with his company, there’s no reason he cannot be considered for the position,” Lifoifoi said.
Camacho, he added, submitted an application to CPA.
According to Lifoifoi, CPA can only pay Camacho $70,000 a year.
“He has accepted that figure [earlier]…and after the final interview by the committee, the board will officially adopt his selection,” he said.
Camacho’s strong background in engineering, Lifoifoi added, is a “plus factor.”
“He has strong qualifications and his engineering skills are commendable. The board is confident that he’ll be an asset to CPA,” Lifoifoi said.
