TINIAN — Cadet Maj. Ryan Michael Nuera, a 17-year-old senior at Tinian Junior-Senior High School was selected by the QuestBridge Program to receive a full scholarship to attend Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. The scholarship will cover all expenses while Ryan is attending Vanderbilt and the total amount of the scholarship for four years is around $360,000.
Ryan was encouraged to pursue the scholarship by school Principal Liz Prezinski and Vice Principal Nikita Mendiola, as well as his personal research on pursuing a college education. Ryan will pursue a major in Economics.
Ryan is an exceptional student and excels at all that he endeavors. Along with the QuestBridge Scholarship his accomplishments this year include being the CNMI Board of Education student representative for the Public School System, 4-H Marianas member, and CNMI Youth State Council vice president.

This year Ryan is the special projects officer and is key in assisting the current staff and also the ongoing Service Learning and Community Projects.
The Stallion Battalion is grateful for all the work Cadet Major Nuera has contributed to the unit and we are extremely proud of his accomplishments.
Ryan was born in the CNMI and raised on Tinian. He is the son of his proud parents Ana Liza Achacoso and Richard Nuera.
Cadet Major Nuera’s advice to his peers are, “Don’t be afraid to try out new things and always look out for new opportunities and experiences, and seize those opportunities!”
