GOVERNOR Arnold I. Palacios on Saturday nominated former Commonwealth Utilities Corp. legal counsel James S. Sirok to the Public Utilities Commission to represent Saipan, and Jamika Reyes Taijeron to the Marianas Visitors Authority board.
In his appointment letter, the governor told Sirok that he and Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang are confident that Sirok will devote his time and effort to represent the interests of the Commonwealth. “Your willingness to serve our people is most appreciated,” the governor said.
Sirok’s appointment for a four-year term on the commission requires Senate confirmation.
In a separate letter to Senate President Edith Deleon Guerrero, the governor said Sirok is highly qualified to fulfill the vital responsibilities of PUC, an independent agency that regulates CUC.
MVA board nominee
Taijeron’s nomination to the Marianas Visitors Authority board also requires Senate confirmation.
In a letter, Palacios told Taijeron that he and the lt. governor are confident that she is qualified and will be an asset to the MVA board.
The governor told the Senate president that Taijeron’s membership on the MVA board is critical. Her nomination and subsequent confirmation by the Senate will ensure consistency and continuity in fulfilling the goals and objectives of MVA, the governor said.
Taijeron has a bachelor of business administration degree from Columbia Southern University and studied tourism and travel services management at Kapiolani Community College.
She is currently a manager of DFS Group Ltd.
